Solaredge Collaborates With Tesla Motors on PV Storage Solutions
SolarEdge Technologies, Inc. is collaborating with Tesla Motors on an inverter solution for grid and photovoltaic integration with Tesla’s home battery, the Powerwall. The joint development builds on SolarEdge’s DC-optimized inverter solution and Tesla’s automotive-grade energy storage technology to enable more cost-effective residential solar generation, storage and consumption for the global market.
Trimble Partners with Microsoft on HoloLens Wearable Holographic Technology
Trimble and Microsoft are developing a new generation of tools integrated with the HoloLens holographic platform on Windows 10. Microsoft HoloLens is a head-mounted, holographic computer that provides a mixed-reality experience for a range of commercial and consumer applications. The HoloLens device extends interaction with 3-D models beyond the confines of a 2-D computer screen, creating new ways for the many stakeholders of complex, multi-phase construction projects to visualize, collaborate, share ideas and manage change. With HoloLens, architects can experience their SketchUp models as holograms placed in the real world to analyze various “what if” design scenarios in the context of the physical environment.
BIM Gets Real with Multivista
Multivista® BIM Integration Program unifies visual construction documentation for immediate comparison of modelled versus actual conditions. The integration links the Multivista® Documentation Software directly with BIM models in Autodesk® Revit®, Navisworks® and BIM 360™Glue/Field software–giving design, construction and facilities management teams seamless access to their Multivista® photographic records directly from BIM models.
GRAPHISOFT Announces Rhinoceros – ArchiCAD Connection
GRAPHISOFT®, a BIM architectural software developer, announced a Rhino® connection for ArchiCAD that enables ArchiCAD users on both the Mac and Windows platforms to import Rhino models into ArchiCAD as GDL objects. The Rhino-ArchiCAD link converts a Rhino model into ArchiCAD geometry. For larger and complex models, GRAPHISOFT has introduced the option to convert a Rhino model into a set of (smaller) GDL objects, which enables the user to retain separate logical parts within the same model while providing a functionality to monitor and easily update the imported Rhino models in ArchiCAD.
Revizto announces integration with Igloo 360* Technology
Revizto version 3.3 now integrates with Igloo 360° interactive visualization technology. Together with Oculus support, Revizto users can explore their AEC and BIM models in 360° interactive environments. Watch the demo to see how it works.
FieldLens Reporting Feature Transforms Daily Construction Reports
With FieldLens daily reports, field managers use a smartphone or tablet to log notes, take photos and videos, mark up drawings and capture manpower as they walk the jobsite. FieldLens automatically turns the day’s field captures into a professional, company-branded report with absolutely no extra work required, giving project administrators one comprehensive project report to review.
JBKnowledge Launches Cloud-Based Construction Network for Contractor Id, Qualification and Selection
JBKnowledge’s SmartInsight online network helps builders maintain, share and request qualification data for construction projects. Currently, only general and prime contractor users of SmartBidNet can tap into the full SmartInsight Contractor Registry for inviting verified subcontractors to prequalify and bid on projects. SmartBidNet users also have integrated access to SmartInsight’s Public Agency Database with more than 500,000 subcontractor and supplier company records from more than 75 public agency databases. Subcontractors and suppliers can join the SmartInsight network , then generate, export and share a completed ConsensusDocs® 721 based on their profile information. Coming next is an inbox for receiving and replying to project prequalification and bid requests; advanced search capabilities for finding contractors and suppliers by location, trade code, project history and more; a public profile that can be customized and distributed by URL to potential partners; and integration with global risk scoring solutions.
Agnostic Cloud Management Platform Supports a Dozen Public and Private Clouds
DivvyCloud cloud management software company just added support for SoftLayer, the fast growing infrastructure-as-a-service offering from IBM. DivvyCloud supports multiple public and private cloud technologies, manages and automates the entire life cycle of software-defined infrastructure (or clouds) with an easy-to-use interface, as well as an extensible, open architecture that allows customers to apply standard security, cost and operational policies across multiple cloud accounts and platforms.

GRAPHISOFT® ARCHICAD 19 now offers robust 64-bit and multi-processing technologies with predictive background processing. Features include new Tab Bar for multiple viewpoints for speedier switching among floor plans, sections, elevations and 3-D windows; Permanent Guidelines, Snap Guides and Snap Points for permanent graphical support for accurate element creation and editing; Interactive 3-D Surface Painter with drag-and-drop building model surface editing in 3-D; faster 3-D navigation with OpenGL; Point-Cloud Support so 3-D laser scanned surveyor data can be imported into the model; listing skin areas in interactive schedules; and a pointer for Dimension Texts helps dimension narrow structures close to each other by automatically adding pointers.
Acquisitions and Partnerships
Trimble and Nemetschek Group Partner to Expand Adoption of BIM
Trimble and the Nemetschek Group have formed a strategic alliance to expand the deployment of BIM across the entire design-build-operate (DBO) life cycle of buildings. The alliance will emphasize collaborative approaches to design modeling and 5-D construction management through data integration among a variety of the companies’ products. The companies plan to share data formats to support new solutions and promote workflow interoperability between selected products across the DBO life cycle; tighten the connection of virtual design and construction (VDC) solutions to real data from the field and real objects in the physical world; support interoperability and the longevity of project data for the entire project life cycle; and maintain their respective deep commitments to open standards and workflows for the benefit of the entire industry—rather than for any individual vendor.
